Hi,
I have the exact set up (first boat) bought in 2008 and have learned many many things some the hard way :) The raw water is drawn in and cools the antifreeze(closed system) via the heat exchanger and cools exhaust through the exhaust manifold. I have done just about everything to this boat and engine. Fun, gets the job done but alot of work. NON Interference engine so if you are not good with timing set up you will not take out any valves !! I attached some pics...not sure if I did it right. What condition is it in?

the boat is near excellent condition. the motor has seemingly been taken care of . the person i bought it from is some what mechanical. he was gonna replace the timing belt because of wear, the he haad an accident that still has him messed up. have heard they outdrive and motors are pretty durable. also heard that when run hard they have overheating issues. i really appreciate pics and any advice u can give

Engine/outdrive is durable. Timing belt is very easy to do and if you need a tensioner go to a car parts place the volvo penta p/n matches and only costs $40. The coil I bought at same parts place and same p/n only cost me $20. The distributer cap has to be bought thru marine store and costs $80 so be careful with the one u have :) Got the pertronix basic conversion for $105 and is worth not fiddlin' with points and condensor crap. A costly lesson I learned with a blown condensor showed up as carb problem signes and after rebuilding carb professionally $200 found out it was a $2 condensor. A manual is a MUST HAVE. I have a 14X19 prop and with moderate load get 30 mph on a good day and 34 mph by myself. The kids have a blast on tubes. Have not tried skiing yet but that is next. The engine runs at the top of temp scale but I have never had an overheat situation even with 2 adults full tank and three kids on a tube all day in the hottest day of the year 102 degrees :)

Let me know what you need. Just got mine back together and running. Far more familiar with this setup than I wantedd or cared for. Make sure to run Bosch or NGK plugs. Will walk you through elec ign upgrade after you have it together. Engine timing is a piece of cake. Ign timing was kind of a pain.

If the head is off, turn your crank until piston 1... the one facing front of boat... is at TDC. Grab a sharpie and mark your crank to the block in case it turns on you!!! Next wheel just up and to the right has an obvious timing mark on it. Your top left camshaft has a timing mark on the pully and one on the valve cover. HEre is the main point... you want to be sure when you line it up, you are on your compression stroke. This means the lobes should be facing up and out at about 45 deg angles. The valves will be CLOSED on the #1. Congrats! You are now timed.
