Looking at buying a 1995 24' pontoon, which would be a first boat for us. The seats have a brown coloring, and feel dry to the touch on the grey parts of the seats. Is there anything that can be done to fix these? They said that the boat was tarped over the winter, and the tarp was left on the boat to long, and got too hot or something. Any thoughts? thanks in advance.

Brown coloring is worse than it looks in the pic. I am excited about getting a boat. It has a 60hp bigfoot, lots of seating, but needs alot of clean up.

The only thing I can come up with is Armor All or maybe Murpys oil soap, something to put moisture back in them but in the end I think they are cooked and always will be so you could probabaly make them better but not fix them.

It's from old age and sun exposure.Try making a paste from some oxyclean you have nothing to lose.

I think you should figure on covering those seats and figure that cost, (1000 to $1500?) into your bargaining/purchase price.

+1. You'll be looking at a recover not too far down the road. Shouldn't necessarily be a deal breaker though if you like everything else about the boat. Just don't let them tell you the damage is no big deal and can be taken care of with some tlc and/or elbow grease. Sellers are very fond of making that claim.

DON'T USE ARMOUR ALL ON BOAT SEATS!

It will degrade the stitching and make it worse.

Use 303 or Mothers they are strictly for marine vinyl there is a difference.

Hava a friend in upholstry business and he recommended using baby oil. Works great!!

I used a vinyl conditioner and cleaner on my seats the other day and it helped with the dryness quite a bit. Won't last forever, but using it 2-3 times a year has kept my seats in better condition.

The reality is that upholstery is too far gone to save. If you buy the rig just plan on using it as is as long as you're comfy with it then having it redone.
