this little engine was given to me to put on a jon boat for a 10 yr old. It has been sitting for 5 years and running fine & stored properly. Put gas in and wouldn't fire so I took the spark plugs out...they were tight. Cleaned them and when I put them back in, the top one would'nt tighten...it is stripped. Is there any way I could fix it myself, I'm pretty handy...rethread holes? Special tape to screw it into?

Also it didn't want to start? I cleaned the plugs and squirted a little gas on the plug & into the cylinder and it fired for just a minute doing this a couple of times. Years ago I squirted either or starting fluid in there to help get it going....good or bad idea???

Any tips on helping to get it started...clean gas lines or filter....or easy to replace. Thx for any of your ideas....10 year old was with me and heartbroken....wants to go fishing....Thank You!

Re: HELP..stripped threads on spark plug???

Remove the head, take it to a machine shop and have them install a Helicoil. Buy a new head gasket, torque head bolts to specs for your engine. Retorque after about 10 hours of run time.

Then see here:

You could do the thread insert deal all by yourself, but you risk destroying the head if you don't do it right.
