76 85hp johnson lower unit

I am trying to remove lower unit to install new impeller. got all bolts out i think and dont know how to remove shilt linkage. what so i need to do.

There is a bellcrank under the bottom carb that has to be split to release the shift linkage. Make sure you reinstall at least one of the bolts holding the lower unit up or it will hit the ground when you release the shift linkage.

Loosen the screw that forms the fulcrum of the bellcrank; then spread the fingers of the bellcrank at the shift rod end. The pin in the end of the forward finger holds the shift rod.
