shift cable pics?

hey guys!! was wondering if anyone has a pic of what the end of the shift cable should look like on a 165 i/o. took off black tube support and i see the solid core wire, but mine has frayed cable crimped into the solid cable. is the cable sposed to be there? and could i uncrimp it and put new cable inor am i going to have to buy a brand new cable? :eek:ive actually been shifting with a vise-grips on the solid wire.... but i want to get it right. thanks everyone!!! oh and yes i looked at the service man. but not very clear pic

You need to buy a new shift cable.

What do you need a picture of? :confused:

i need a pic of what a GOOD cable end looks like. im thinking im going to have to replace it. damn boats are money pits
!! haha!!!oh well i need to spend my 55+ hours a week somwhere right!!?? thanks guys ill c what i can find for a cheap one.... maybe by sierra?

Don't buy a cheap lower shift cable, get the OEM, Mercruiser/QuickSilver cable. There are lots of parts that you might be able to scrimp on, but I'll never buy an aftermarket lower shift cable again. The kit can be found on Ebay for $70 or so.

Ayuh,... I agree with Dan,...
I buy tons of Seirra parts, but used the Merc cable kit on My barges....
