most lilely cause?

left side riser got very hot yesterday with the connector hose to the Y pipe starting to smoke. I shut her down after the wife noticed and tried to check for obstructions on the pick up but could not see any and beside, starboard side seemes OK. I took her in at 1000rpm and everything was fine be port side did seem a bit warmer after upening her up for about a half mile. again, temps were normal but left side seemed a little warmer to the touch. boat has a full freshwater cooling system on 260 pre alpha drive. we had been putting around for a couple of hours at 1200 rpm and from what I can tell from the depthfinder had gone through some seaweed etc prior to the port side heating up. impeller is maybe 3 years old but probably only has 10 hrs on it. I can pull the drive and replace easy enough but wondering about exhaust flappers etc. the boat is 30 years old and I have not had to replace or repair any of the exhaust system except for block off plate on the risers. boat is used (not enough) in salt water but stored on trailer. thanks for any replies!

That should be the first thing you check on any type of overheat situation.
There are just too many things that can cause an impeller to fail.

thanks Don, heading out to pull her off now. If I can't figure out might have to pull her over to Westport from Tacoma. Jim
