bring a compression gauge and check the compression on all cylinders, see if the motor runs and better yet if its on a boat take it on the water and run it. how much does he want for it?

well it mainly depends on how the motor was maintained over the years. has that motor been rebuilt? that price is high for an older motor

Its better IMHO than that evinrude 50 you had, however, I would make sure you test out the compression on the motor before you buy it. If you don't know how, then bring someone who does. The last thing you need are two boat anchors. Also give it a good look over, ie, does the skag look like it and a hard object have meet in the past. HOw does it look under the cowling. Greasy oily, paint off the bolts, lie someone has taken it apart, that sort of stuff. Pull the drain plug on the bottom end, and look at the oil. IS it black, brown, white? Does the screw have metal shavings on the magnet portion of it?
