No power to engine or trim/tilt

I was on the lake last weekend and my 1986 90hp Mercury was running great. I shut the motor off and when I tried to restart...nothing. I get no response from the ignition or my trim/tilt. The battery has good power and the cables are tight. I had just put in a new starter solenoid and ignition switch chasing a previous prolem that turned out to be a loose negative connection on my battery. Any ideas for this new problem? I opened the control box thinking that maybe one of the wires came apart from installing the ignition switch but they all looked good.

Sounds like something came loose and shorted to ground. Check the fuse at the engine, it's probably blown. It should be just above the starter solenoid or somewhere in that area. It'll be black and about 2" long x 3/8" diameter with red wire coming out of either end. If you twist it, it will open up and expose the 20amp fuse inside.

Looking good and being good are too different things. All mine looked good but my choke and ign. quit working on me. I took the switch out and sanded everything down and then I had good connections. If you hva e 12 volt meter this will help find your problem.

I haven't had a chance to look at it again yet, but I couldn't imagine that it would be a fuse. That shouldn't affect the tilt and trim...should it?

Re: No power to engine or trim/tilt

I have the same problem on my 2005 9.9 mercury kicker. I checked the fuse and it's fine. I change to double check. But, same thing my tilt doesn't respond and the ignition won't respond. Anyone help please. What do I do next. I checked and I do have 12v at the incoming red wire to the motor.

Thanks,
Curt
