I took out the two bolts that I thought held it in, that didnt work so I droped the lower unit, but I dont know how to get the driveshaft out. any help would be great. thank you, Phil.

You're gonna' need a puller Phil. You unbolted the bearing carrier. Now you need a two jaw puller to yank that sucker out.

One more thing... sounds to me like the prop was probably correct, but was installed without the thrust washer.

Phil, You can try using a 2X4 to pry between the gearcase and the prop blade. Use gentle pressure and alternate blades.

thank guys, but do i need to remove the drive shaft? i'm new to boat motors but not mechanics. i dont know the proper names but i think the shaft goes down in to a gear which would turn another gear for the prop shaft[like a ring an pinion in a rear end]but i could be wrong?

No you dont have to pull out the drive shaft in order to remove the propshaft and carrier bearing.I read a post with a suggestion on how to pull the carrier bearing and propshaft. Take a piece of plywood and put it between the prop and your housing and slowly tighten up your prop nut and it will pull it out.

Gomer, The bearing retainer has a large donut-shaped nut which keeps it in place. This must be removed with a spanner, or drilled and cracked out, before the bearing retainer will pull out.

Phil, I misread your post. If the seal is not leaking, reinistall the bearing retainer and install a new or proper thrust washer and prop. If it leaks, you probably need a new bearing carrier and seals. They use a slide hammer ot two jaw puller to remove the bearing carrier.

the seal leaks cause theres so much metal wore off. the boat would only go about 5mph.

You have the "metric" unit as we call it and the carrier is held in with the 2 nuts you removed(no carrier nut as in old inlines). It looks like your in some brackish water and corrosion around stud may make it hard to remove, just soak them with some PB Blaster overnight. Then install prop and take a soft rubber mallet and tap the carrier and propshaft out. Be careful as there are 3 steel ball that shift pin rides on and dont lose these. Reinstall the propshaft/pin & balls. Order carrier part number 12596T2,o-ring #785-97386. You may also have to swap propshaft bearing from your old carrier to the new one. When reinstalling make sure you dont pinch the rear thrust washer and bearing and the reason it has poor performance is the exhaust is exiting around prop instead of thru it.
