Ok, it took me all day to drop the lower unit, I broke the head off the bolt near the bottom, finally got it off..when i took off the waterpump and having the new one right there, i noticed a little plastic shim looking thing fell to the side, i have no clue where it came from..the new kit had a black one and a white one..Anyone know where they go..the kit came with no instructions.. I cant find a diagram nowhere of my lower unit..Also i need a gasket that broke when i removed the lower unit. but dont know what its called..Any help on these plastic shims would be very helpful...thanks

Plastic shim...... it is the key to lock the impellar onto the shaft.

If you need an exploded view try shop.evinrude.com and look up the parts for your motor

You know, if you get a BRP kit, it comes with detailed instructions. You apparently got an aftermarket kit which came with parts for multiple motors and no instructions. If the splined top of the driveshaft has a machined groove, the O ring goes there. If not, an O ring is used inside the bottom end of the crankshaft socket. Both are for the purpose of retaining the moly grease you're going to put on the splines, but NOT the top of the driveshaft, but you must have known that.

You can tell which you have if it isn't obvious, by looking at the parts list for your motor on BRP Evinrude website.

I got a sierra , and it turned out diasterous..no instructions..but it appeared common sense besides that one o-ring...So water shot out every crack possible in the lower unit area...so I took the lower unit off again and hooked ears up to it..Where is water suppose to come out? does my lower unit suppose to fill with water...Theres a little hole on the side bottom of the water pump , water coming out of there , the old pump has the same hole.. also out of the shaft area......I need instuctions..your right...The question I guess is does sierra have instructions online..and how much water suppose to fill the lower unit...

Put it together, run it, you should hear the pressure hissing a little from the tell tale as it fills up, make sure you have tell tale water and check the head temperatures.

Water must be well above the pump if you're using a barrel.

For the other questions, look at Top Sectret sticky

Re: 1992 115hp johnson water pump question

im using rabbit ears to see how the water pump, pumps out water..so i decided to use the other o-ring that i thought went to the top of the shaft, and water slowed down alot ..just coming out that small factory hole on the bottom..is there an adapter that connects the water pump to the copper tubing going to the intake...thats surely a pour connection..it appears to be notype of fitting or anything , but does get the water to the engine...any help would be appreciated..im becoming a pro..

The copper tube goes into the large tubular hole on the top of the pump. There's a rubber grommet which goes in first. This works fine if you're careful during assembly to make sure the tube enters the hole and that the grommet doesn't get folded or massed during the process. This works perfectly fine.

I took it apart again to see if i could get the water from coming out at the seam between the upper and lower unit and no luck..went to marine store to get an exhaust gasket and he said it fine for water to be coming out of the seem, as long as its pumping out the top. in which it is..
