Motor will not crank while spark plugs are in, if i remove the plugs it cranks great, just seems to not crank while under compression. Any ideas?

poor compression will cause a motor to not spin over? sounds to me more like the starter is going bad? no plugs = no compression and easier to turn over, plugs = compression and harder to trun over. please correct me if I'm wrong

Re: 125 force think is an 86 issues

Compression was done 1 is low, per mechanic 2 at 125, 1 at 110, and 1 at 105. He wanted to run some cleaner in it but says it needs to run. All i know is it went in for a headgasket change running fine untill warm and now it will not turn over. As far as the starter is concerned tried 4 and 2 i know were good when last used. Any other ideas,we recently changed the water pump and only ran it for 20 min at 3/4's when we started to get the head gasket issue. Mechanic said the issue could be in the lower unit, he was ok not happy about the compression differences. But i had him stop befor he ran me broke, besides i have another 125 in the garage with something wrong in the electrical area not sure. Brings me to my next Q, not sure what year either motor is but one is white and the other blue, should the electronics swap over if thats what i need to do?

Thanks to all that answered the first post!

Double check your woodruff key (pin on the flywheel). If it didn't seat right and your timing is off you will have a hard time getting the motor to turn over. If you don't want to take off the flywheel just pull the plug from no 1 cylinder bring it to TDC and check your timing marks. If its not a 0 or very close you need to reset the woodruff.

Use jumpers and go straight from battery to starter. Same response=starter.

The difference in compression WILL make it hard to turn over. You need even or very close comp to make it start.Get a good tester, take the starter apart and clean. Then do the comp test.Maybe the head gasket was installed wrong. Do some checking.Remove the head.
Yes the white and blue are the same.Parts should swap out.Just do a comp test before you start changing heads.
If your motor is blue it's 87 and up white 86 and down.J

Re: 125 force think is an 86 issues

well if Im worng Im wrong I guess, however i have the same exact motor in question here and my compression was no where close to even with the worst being 110psi low and it would spin over without any problems.
