Broken water connection from impeller to boat engine?

Mechanical idiot with overheating issue:
Water not getting to engine. Dealer replaced impeller. Still overheats quickly. Cobra OMC.

Taking the impeller off and putting the garden hose into the starboard hole, water runs out of the intakes, indicating the passage from impeller to the water intake is clear. But when I put the hose in the left hole, water runs briskly out the front of the drive just under the linkage. (I assume this side is supposed to connect directly to the engine's cooling system, and if water runs out like this, it's not getting up to the engine. Right?)

I don't see any easy way of getting at the spot where the water's running out. (Looks like I'd have to remove the entire drive unit and replace all the seals.) Am I correct in assuming I have a disconnected hose? And is there a way to fix this without turning the boat back to the dealer for another month?

Wait!!!!!
If the dealer replaced the impeller, they would have surely run the boat and made sure it operated as intended. I would call this potential negligence?

How do I get to the hose attachment?

(Already made the mistake of taking off the square sterndrive cover plate and running into foul-smelling oil.)

Answer, in case anybody else runs across this thread:
You can get to the water supply hose, with great difficulty, through the narrow crack just behind the stern drive on the port side of the boat. (Put the drive in mid-position, and turn the steering so the drive is maximally to starboard. The hose exits on the port side, just below the mechanical bundle. There's a threaded pipe coming out of the upper stern drive, about the same size as the hose. The hose was dangling next to it. I assume some nipple-thingy was formerly threaded onto the pipe, and inserted into the hose, attached with your standard hose-clamp. (So I'm still not fixed, and will likely need the dealer's help.) The transom attachment is higher, and inconveniently, the hose clamp is located behind the little hydraulic pipe where it's extremely hard to get a screwdriver or wrench on it. By moving the sterndrive slightly up/down and side-to-side, it's possible to find a sweet spot where you can work the screw.
