Charging system

I have a 1984 mercury 50hp 4 cylinder 2 stroke engine . I would like to know what the volt and amperage output is for the charging system on this engine. Thank you, has

youshould have a 9 amp stator - voltage should be 12.5 at idle roughly and increase to 14 or 15 - if it goes over that - either battery is toast or the stator is going - you probably have a rectifier vs. a regulator ( the battery acts as the regulator )

If you don't have a regulator on that motor, add one, you should add one. Charging voltage on Pb battery should not exceed 14.4v.

Look for a thread in Force motor that mention a snow mobile rectifier/regulator combo that can handle up to 15A. It's compact and cost only about $40 vs the similar boat version for about $130.

Verdo7 i thank you for the info. Very helpful i have the 12.5 volts,but i dont have an ampmeter that will read that low. Next time i'am on the water i will check the high speed voltage output.

ASM I thank you for the info. about the snow mobile rectifier/regulator that is on the Force outboard motor thread. I just replaced the rectifier because of no charge, now I have the 12.5 volts at idle, but just off idle the voltage goes up to 16 volts. I will get one and put it on and I hope I haven't damaged the battery.THANKS AGAIN HAS
