Do you think I'll need a ladder real soon. Those are 10 foot pieces of conduit tied to 6' poles. While I have been gone a week, they have grown another 2 feet. People are now stopping and asking what I have been feeding them and the type. I tell them that they are an heirloom variety called Brandywine and I only used 1 50 pound bag of cow manure per 4 square feet. Nothing better than organic.

Yup, I till it in to about 10" deep. I prefer sterlized chicken manure, but I wasn't able to get it this year. Others beat me to it. However the Cow stuff seems to be working very well. Today, a couple of them are about 6" away from the gutters of the house now. I used my bucket truck to sucker and tie them last night. Guess I'll have to pick them the same way. I found one green one that looks like it will hit 3 pounds when it rippens.

I finally picked some last night that were ready. I should have taken some pics of them once they were sliced. Lots of meat and not much for seeds. I did find that the skins are real soft and they are easily bruised. I don't think I have ever had a more tastier mater.

4 sq ft is only 2'x2'. I am way under on fertilising at that rate....

Manure is pretty dense ........ next time you are by a garden center ...take a look at a bag's weight vs it's volume. 2' x 2' x 10" deep is a fair size area.

However, I do not believe you can add any now after plants are up or they will burn

Yup, but his application rate was 50# for 4 sq ft....he corrected that to 16 sq ft and that is not so crazy.
Still way more than I use, but look at his tomatoes....can't argue with that...;)

Re: Mater Update

I'm guessing he got it backward and it's supposed to be 4 pounds for 50 ft.
