Re: Fuel pump operation ???

I charged the oil pump with a drill and cranked it with just the starter a few times before it was fired to make sure that oil was flowing. I actually didnt think that was an acceptible way to charge the oil system, I always thought that was the "back yard mechanics way".

Any way

I know I had oil flow and pressure was great. You should of seen the mess I had since it didnt have a valve cover on for the first start.

The shop tried to convince me you dont pre-lube the cam lobes with molly when installing, but I have never seen it done any other way you put assembly lube on the bearng and molly on the lobes and gear. Heck cam kits come with molly for that reason, well the ones I have gotten do.

I have a new Elgin Cam kit with all new Elgin/Melling lifters lined up, Hopfully I have her going this weekend.

Get that in writing, record the conversation, whatever it takes. Flat tappet lobes 'n lifters need lots of lube for break-in.
File a small-claims suit against them. Get documentaion from other engine builders about the importance of lubing those parts during assy. Produce a plethera of info on the web about it. You'll have them by the *****.

You know that would be fun to take it to them that way, but I just want to get the boat done and enjoy the rest of the summer with the kids and wife.....I am a pretty laid back person and do my best not to get too worked about about stuff. Yes I was P.O. when I saw it and I dropped a few "F" bombs and other choice words and deffinatly let them know what I thought of them.....but maybe when I get this done and on the water I may look into it at least to get paid back for the replacement cam. I dont know how it will work since they are out of state.
