I have a older Honda B100L motor. Last time we had it ran till we shut it off, but that was 10years ago. I brought it home, New plugs, oil in the cylnders it was stored inside. Bought a new gas tank cause the old one was full of rust. Put some fuel in, Pumped the bulb. Gave it a pull and a pull and so on and so on. It fired a couple times but didn't run. Took the cover off and pulled till I was blue face:confused:. I didn't get mad. I expected this to happen. But during pulling and pulling. The belt that runs to what I presume is the cam for the top end broke. and it feels like I have no compression now. The pully seems loose and sloppy and spins by it self without spinning the shaft in the centre. What is it and it being loose is it normal? How do I fix it? Did I through everything out of time?
Please any advice would be great.
Thanks

Buy a new timming belt, sync head valves, crank shaft pullies, Buy a service manual to sync correctly, check valves gauge, re adjust if needed. Hope you haven't bend any valve head with piston head while pulling with broken belt out of place, depending on engine brands, this issue do pass.

Happy Boating

The fly wheel is easy to turn. The Pully is lose and sloppy. I found parts for it. Its going to cost 200bucks to replace the Belt and the Pully cam. Not sure if it is worth it or not.

True but what if I bent a valve, and find that out after I get the belt and pully. I am thinking about it. It does't really move my 14' boat very well. My friends 9.9mariner will get it up plane were my honda won't. I probably fix it and sell it.

If you have the means do a compression test and a cylinder leak down test this should tell you if you might have a bent vaslve. If you dont bring it to a shop and let them do it. Cylinder leak down will tell you more than a compression test alone. Ive had many a motor whos compression is fine but failed the leakdown test.
