Fuel pump issue

1991 350 alpha one with about 350 hours. On the original fuel pump, the plug that holds the pin that holds the lever in the housing on came off and allowed the pin to back out causing the lever to fall causing no pump actuation. I put it all back together and JB welded the plug in place. The JB weld cured over night. I reinstalled the pump and the engine ran fine for about 15 minutes before the above items fell out again.

I then replaced the fuel pump with a new one, On the new pump, the pin that holds the lever in place was actually secured inside the pump so I felt good about that. Took the boat to the lake and it ran fine all weekend so I thought the problem was solved. :)

On the next trip, half way through the day, the boat just died and acted like it ran out of gas. I noticed no fuel was making it to the carb. I remove the outlet line on the fuel pump, cranked the engine and no fuel. Upon inspection of the new fuel pump I noticed that the pump had about an 1/8" gap between the fuel pump and mount plate. So apparently the two bolts have backed out somehow. I didn't have the tools on the boat at that time to try and tighten it back up. They were torqued when I installed the new pump. Could the two pump issues be a symptom of something else going on? Ant ideas are greatly appreciated.

Thanks

Re: Fuel pump issue

#1 JB Weld SUCKS! I just replaced the pump in my old Shark. I always use Ultra Copper RTV on almost all engine bolts. Keeps them in without making them impossible to remove. Torque alone won't always keep bolts in. That's why airplanes use lock wire and pins on almost every nut and bolt.

No, I wouldn't think so...
