Had a crack in my 57 fastwin 18 gear case. looking back I should have just used some marine tex, refilled with oil and kept going. But I wanted to make sure the gears were fine so I separated the gear housing and lower unit. I have a friend who welds alum. so he repaired the crack. I inspected all the components and everything looked fine so I reassembled the gear housing and the lower unit. I have read others threads about the linkage so I made sure the rods were connected. Using hand power the prop turned freely in neutral, and and locked in forward and reverse. I felt great about a job well done until I got on the lake and tried to put it in forward. It did not engage. Reverse and neutral just fine. Does anyone think that this is in the linkage or maybe in the gear assembly? Any help would be appreciated.

you may have to adjust the rod still. Also is it on controlls or tiller?

Tiller. Messed with the linkage alot. Do the rods need to meet in the connecting block? I had a hard time seating the lower rod.

You should be able to line up the rods, in the controll block by the exhaust markings on them. The exposed portions should be black, the part that was in the block should be silverish.
