Ok...I have a new CDI stator, new trigger, new Regulator, All new hoses on fuel system, New Flywheel (had a cracked magnet on the old one), New Spark Plugs, New Switch Box, all contacts are tight and clean, Fresh cleaned and rebuilt carbs (linked and synced), static timed at 30*, TDC verified on new flywheel, new diaphram in pump, brand new gas with sea foam. Good compression on all four (between 130 and 135). Spark was erratic on #1 and #2 before replacing flywheel. Not sure about now as my spark tester went belly up.

Thats all the stuff I have done to fix this thing. The more new parts I hang on it, the worse it gets. When in neutral, my motor will rev up well over 5K rpms (I only did it once just to see if it would). When I put it into gear, it goes to 1000 or 1100, bogs and dies unless I pull back on the control to go back to fast idle (900 rpm or so) or neutral. My carb screws are set to 1 1/8 turn out. My idle is way too low (in neutral aroung 600 rpm). Sometimes I put it into gear and it dies.

Any thoughts? I am kinda tired of searching for the problem on this thing, so Monday the 26th it goes to the mechanic to have him look at it.

Does your prop spin free in neutral? I'm wondering if the lower unit might be binding up on u. If you can wind it out in Neutral it should rev in drive too.

Re: 1992 120 L Drive problem

interesting story with my lower unit... The PO took the boat out and was cruising down the lake at top speed when all the sudden it started jumping out of gear. he never noticed it at low speeds just high. He kept putting it back in gear and going again. Eventually the lower unit locked up and snapped the shear shaft in two. when the lower unit cooled down it would spin good, but you could feel more then normal resistance and a little binding. Your best bet would be to check the gear oil and if there's water in it your lower unit might be damaged.

Yes...checked it out and the prop spins free in neutral. However, I had the motor in forward gear yesterday, while pondering at it, and my friend, just playing around put a VERY slight bit of pressure on the prop. He said he heard a "pop" and it was spinning, but the motor wasn't turning over. This could be the root of my problems. I will drain the lower unit and maybe pull it off and take a look at things this weekend. I'm kinda busy this week!! Thanks for the idea!!
