You might post this in the Electrical forum. You might also post a description of the switch in question. I cannot know what it is with the model number.

You mean a Perko model 9601 battery switch. Simple on/off. Lead from the batt (install a 40A breaker in it) to the batt terminal, lead going to the helm to the common terminal...

So youre saying a cable coming from the postive side of the battery to the common side of the switch?? where would the negative go on the switch or does it go on the switch there are only two connections .. Thats why im confused. Thanks:confused:

Please be sure to use only marine wire or you will be doing it all over again in the future! Even the battery cables should be marine grade.

while i didn't see the back of the switch. it can't be anything more than 2 contacts.
basically all ya wanna do is put the switch in series with positive wire. it's like cutting the pos. wire. when ya cut it in half. no power goes through it. when ya put the ends back together the circuit is complete and power then flows on to the fuse box where you'll do all your devises. put the switch in between where ya cut the wire at. if one side is marked com. just use that for the non batt. end.
the neg. wire from the batt. just goes up the the fuse box and connects straight to it. the fuse box.

i did about what your doing but i didn't use a switch. i just put a fuse right after the battery connection. my fuse box is always powered unless the fuse blows. which is a switch when it comes right down to it. hope that makes sense.

A switch is simply an interruption of a circuit, just as if you cut the wire. There are no grounds on switches. As I have said before, if you were to cut the lead going to your bilge pump, the touched each end of the wires back together, you have become the switch...
