1997 115hp Merc ob wont rev past 1600 rpm

I recently put this motor on my boat and it ran fine the first time out. Now it will not get above 1600-1700rpm at full throttle. I have replaced the plugs, made sure the wires are making good contact, even checked the needles in the carbs and still nothing. Not sure what else to try any help would be appreciated. Thanks

Does the engine have CDMs or a switchbox and 4 separate ignition coils? Post the engine serial number....

I am not sure about the CDM or switch bow (new to this stuff) but I know it has 4 coils serial#OG497612

I suspected it had 4 separate coils, because the problems sounds very much like a dead high speed winding in the stator. You need to remove the flywheel and replace the stator....

Thanks will try that have old motor that threw a rod so have the parts. Where exactly could I find said part under the flywheel. Again thanks.

It's the one with the red and blue wires...
