I am brand new to the world of I/O boating. Last week I bought a 1969 Starcraft Holiday that needs just about everything re-done. I found a newer motor, it's a 1999 Mercruiser 140. The seller has a business liquidating estates and tells me he has other Mercruiser parts available as well. Will the new motor work in this boat? I believe that the outdrive and gimble unit are in good working condition.

I have a few thousand to spend on this project and am only into the boat and 1988 galvanized easy loader trailer $1,100 so far. Does anyone out there have a 19' starcraft holiday that has undergone this kind of work and what did you do for the power plant.

Also I live in the greater Seattle Area and am looking for an I/O mechanic that I can trust. I have just one experience and well I guess you know how that turned out.....

Thank you in advance for any information that you might share.

Re: 1969 Starcraft holiday Re-power

Well I found a 1991 Mercruiser 3.0 LX 135HP complete stern drive system to replace the old rusted out unit I pulled. I'll be taking the motor to Bowtie engine rebuild in the Lake Tapps area. I heard from a co-worker that he does all GM motors well. After that I'll be taking it all to CJ marine to re-install and make it run.

Wish me luck!
