I have a 100 hp golden meteor. Does anyone know if there is an id plate or something that would tell the year, and where would I be able to find a service manual?

There should be a plate riveted to the motor's transom bracket with the model number. If not there, then there may be a round plug on the powerhead with the model number.

Once you determine the model number, you can get an original factory manual from the original publisher, Ken Cook Co., in Milwaukee. They are also on the web.

Check out ebay. There are often original factory service manuals on there for a decent price. My golden meteor 100hp is a 67 and there are several 100hp manuals for around $20 right now. They are listed as Evinrude manuals but the engines are identical.

I haven't found any numbers on the transom mount or powerhead. There are however, numbers stenciled on the foam inside the hood. Would those mean anything?

I have narrowed it down to either a '66 or '67. Does anyone know if there are any major differences between the two years?

Yes, major differences. 1966 had battery & coil automotive ignition, 1967 had battery CD ignition. '67 CD ignition has a black "brain box" pulse pack to the rear of the powerhead. '66 has the big junction box in the boat, '67 has no junction box. '66 flywheel looks like a flying saucer with round porthole windows all around, '67 is flatter, no windows.

I also have 1966 Johnson 100 HP Golden Meteor Eletromatic and was able to find parts manual on the net. However I did not have any luck looking for a starter with part number 378228. Does any one know where I can find a used or rebuilt one? My was missing when I got the boat and motor.

That style 100 was only made for 3 years.

The 1966 was an off-white color called French Silver

In 1967 they went to a light green and for '68 it was a dark green.

A gent who works on outboards for hundred of boat lovers in the Southern Maine area informed me on Friday that the Johnson 100hp Golden Meteor model was only made in 1967 and 1968. Not saying that he couldn't be wrong but this man has 50 years of experience.
