First let me say thanks to everyone for their help. I am just completing my first boat restoration.
1986 24' Vendetta/1986 Suzuki 200 hp 2 stroke tunnel hull deck boat.
Rotten floor and furniture. Motor maybe 100 hours. Transom and stringers ok
As I could not afford to replace the deck the right way with my current finances I found posts on here how to do it on a budget so this is what I did.
Took boat down to empty hull, emptied cleaned and replaced original gas tank and new filler hose. Don't forget this step. Cleaning out the tank protects the engine and replacing the filler hose can minimize fumes in hull since there are no blowers to remove gas fumes in this size boat.
Deck is 24' x 8' basically the same as a pontoon boat on a fiberglass hull.
Cut treated kiln dried plywood to fit very tight. The dried plywood is not supposed to shrink. Cut access holes.
Painted both sides of plywood and all edges with zinsler bulls eye primer.
Painted both sides and all edges with mis tinted deck paint I bought off of clearance shelf for $5. Probably could have skipped this step but I wanted to smooth as much of the wood texture as possible and extra coat bottom of wood. The deck paint was tinted pink and I had to survive a little harassment about my pink boat for a few days. It will be forever pink on the bottom tho and might be a little calming if I ever have to get under there and work on wiring.
Screwed wood down counter sinking screws.
Filled screw holes with wood flller.
Painted wood with stair/floor texture paint that had sand already in it.
Sealed edges with silicone.
This repair should last 10 years if not forever and saved hundreds on fiberglass resin and cloth as well as would have had to carpet or gel coat surface.
Cost
6 sheets treated kiln dried plywood $180
primer 16
oops pink tinted deck paint 5
screws 7
textured stair/floor paint 24
Silicone 4
Total $236
Getting on the water this year Priceless
Pullin the kids, fishin for stripers or drinkin a cold Bud at 55 mph on Lake Hartwell SC.
thanks for all the advice.
