I tried the right JB epoxy on the magnet and it worked good. Also, i installed my new stator today, but cannot test it yet till i can find a way to hold the damn flywheel steady while torquing the flywheel nut.

I did however run into 1 suprise doing the install. I removed the sm. 4 pole rectifier to get better access to the wires i had to disconnect and while screwing it back onto the engine , the shaft of my screwdriver touched the outside of one of the stator poles and some sparks shot off. It was only a fraction of a sec. but there was a little scorch mark on the flat metal piece on the outside of the pole. It was about the size of the tip of a pencil.

Any chance i fried something? I had the inline fuse on the POS. side of my battery disconnected, but now i know to kill all power.

I don't think that it was a stator wire you hit. More likely, it was the ground for the rectifier. In that case, you shouldn't have any permanent damage.

Disconnect the entire battery before you become an arc welder!

Yea, the head of the screwdriver was tightening the ground for the rectifier and the shaft hit the stator pole (not wire) and the sparks and mark came from the stator pole. There were no marks on the rectifier and nothing on the stator copper wires, just the metal piece on the outside of the pole. Scared the **** outta me

Well now i got the flywheel torqued down and i went to test the stator and i have 0 volts on my battery dash gauge I checked my Batt. connections al all look good. I turn the key and nothing, no light, horn nothing. I checked all my fuses inline and under the dash and all are good. What could it be now?

Larger force engines have a circuit breaker located in the area around the solinoid and rectifier. See if you have one and try reseting it.

I will try that when i get home. I only have a 50hp though, i briefly looked for one earlier but did not see anything that jumped out at me. If i dont have one, what else could it be?

You can do an ohm test on the stator before you put the flywheel on. You should always disconnect the battery when working on anything near wires.

If you are reading 0 volts on your voltmeter, then obviously you are not getting power from the battery. Check the connections one by one until you find the problem.

Like John said there should be a breaker around the solenoid.Or on the wiring harness connections.
Since it overheated you should do a compression test too.J

I was told the flywheel has to be on Yes, i have learned about disconnecting the batt. from now on.

I tried to read the Batt, but i just got sparks off the pos.terminal and no reading. I put meter on AC and DC #20 black test lead to black batt. terminal and red test to red batt. terminal, did not see any reading only sparks off pos. terminal.

Check your meter it should be on dc 12 volts for checking batt voltage,also make shure your meter leads are in the corect plug conectors

It could cause that much of a loss of power. The stator powers the cdi packs and the ignition. Glad you had luck with the flywheel. I'm going to attempt to pull the flywheel on my old powerhead one more time with an impact wrench. Tried1/4-20 grade 8 but they broke easily. I had to drill and tap to 5/16th and still no luck. I think I ripped the bolt right out of the flywheel instead of breaking it.

When you have the puller installed and you tighten it up take a hammer and tap on the top of the puller where the socket would go that should pop the flywheel. I pulled the bolts out of mine and had to re tap also. Tapping the puller and giving it a snug and repeat it should pop.

I found a fuse breaker and it was popped, thanks, i might not of found it if you guys did not tell me that was prob. it because it was burried unded a bunch of wires. Now, last 2 tests on my old stator was 300V--good and next was 100V--bad. New stator tested basically off the scale for both tests over 400V, doe's 400+V seem high? I will be trying to fire the engine tomorrow morning in a drum of water, fingers crossed. I did notice it seemed to want to turnover stronger and faster while testing the stator. Will update tomorrow.

Well, it started and ran smooth and strong for about 10 sec. then got rough and eventually died. It did this about 20 times or so. I never could get it to stay running. The bottom plug wire seemed not to grab the plug tight, so i tapped the rubber boot co crush the metal connector a bit, then it fit much better, but now it wont start at all, but try's to turn over strong. What would cause it to not stay running? Now i suppose i need a new coil?

Are you using the fast start postion and choking the engine? Is the ball still hard when the engine stalls?

Yes the ball is still hard when it dies and if you mean choking it while starting, yes i was, but after a few times it will start without the choke, but does not spin as fast as when using the choke. I also just checked the CD mod. as per manual and do not get ANY reading when it's supposed to be 210 V. 400DVA setting, red test lead to ground and black test lead to the orange and red wires that come out of the CD going to the Ig. coils. I thought it was black lead to ground but manual says red. If the CD is fried, would it cause the engine to start but then die like i am experiencing?

I want to say not normally. It is not unusual to have one CDI circuit inop and the engine will still run, but it won't produce rated power. Yours is acting more like a timing or mixture issue.

You didn't answer my question about using the fast idle position. Most Force controls have a provision for pulling out the power lever and pushing it forward giving you a fast idle of @ 2000 rpm. Does yours have this and when starting, are you using this?

How high an rpm are you getting during the time the engine is running? Does it back fire at all on start or during its running?
