Ok I have a 1993 omc 3.0 engine that need to be removed. The quote was 450-600 dollars to have it done. What happend is the starter bolts are both stripped out, so i'm just goin to pull the engine and fix it right. I havent pulled any boat engines before. This is a deck boat so I have room to pull engine foward with out removing the drive... Can i remove the engine or do i need pay someone?

You dont say but it should be a cobra.Pull the drive first, repair starter bolts/bolt holes. etc.
install engine, check /adjust engine alignment, install drive.Failure to get the alignment correct will cost you a hard to find coupler,

No, but you will be putting a new coupler in very shortly if the alignment went off a bit.

Remove the drive first.Unhook the battery cables from the grounds and the starter,Remove the large cannon electrical plug on the motor.
There should be a couple other grounds attached to the bell housing.
Unhook fuel line, power steering lines at the transom actuator.

Take out the 2 rear engine mount bolts.Remove the lag bolts from the front mount and pull it out.

A reverse drill bit works well in getting the old starter bolts out.
Drill a small pilot hole in the center of the broken bolt then step up a couple sizes with a reverse bit.

Are u waiting for someone to tell u not to pull the drive? Ok, don't. New couplers are about $175. Have fun with it.

Well actually i don't wanna pay someone that much money to do somthing that i could do myself! I have never really worked on boats so "pulling the drive" seems like a difficult task to me. Instead of help about the problem or some guidance you just wanna be a ****! But no its fine! Thanks bud.

No, you want someone to tell u not to pull the drive. So, I did. Guys like u want it both ways. Ya can't do the work yourself, so you want to cut corners when it's time to pay a mechanic. Then when something goes wrong, you'll blame the guy that did the work.

I'm not tyring to be a 'richard', but you asked for an opinion and got one from a couple of experienced members. Just because you didn't like the answer you got doesn't mean that they're d1cks. I'm a little suprised that the first response to your question wasn't "Do you have a manual?" That should be the first step for anyone wanting to do their own repair work. Someone who 'works on engines all day' should know the importance of having manuals for correct information about torque specs, clearances, etc. Having a manual will also make it easier for the members here to work with you and help with any problems or to clarify instructions. If you are comfortable working on engines, then pulling the drive will not be hard for you to do. There are alot of great people on this site that are more than willing to help you out, but if they feel that their help is falling on deaf ears then then they're not going to stick around.

I hope I don't come accross as sounding condecending, I'm just trying to help you get the most out of this great site. Like you, when I first came here I had no experience working on sterndrives but had done alot of wrenching on cars. While a little apprehensive at first, with the help of a manual and iBoats I found that it really wasn't that bad.

Good luck and welcome to iBoats!
