We all do speedtest, what about a ping test? A ping test tests the quality of your internet connection, as not everything has to do with raw download speed.

This is my result!

Go to www.pingtest.net to check your connection!

For reference, here are my speedtest results:

This is actually pretty good compared to the results I sometimes get. I've been bitching alot to my isp so maybe he's done something about it.

Wouldn't be too concerned with Ping.

You got an F for ping... Test another location closer to you. It could just be the location you are testing.
If you want to know for sure.
Get the Ip address for the location you are testing..
Open command prompt.
Type:

tracert 111.111.111.111

Replace the 1s with the actual IP address. When you see the time increase there is the bottle neck. Could be anywhere along the line. When you hit a website, you're not just going strait to the site. You are making "hops" to the site. Anyone of those hops could be bottle necked.

I was thinking about something different as well. Back in the day, I was a submariner. On patrol, we typically didn't use active sonar and "ping". It's pretty noisy and let Ivan know you were following him :D

We ALL do not do speed or ping tests.

After leaving the dark age's of dial-up, I am absolutely giddy about my dsl speed. No tests needed.:)

There are probably many of us who are not totally digital and might not be comfortable that there is not a possible security risk to "pinging" unknown web sites.

Tim, it is perfectly safe to do a ping test. The websites that you would do that with aren't "unknown" they are well known respected ping test sites established by the ping and speed test site. I guarentee you are in more danger in your daily web browsing than you are doing a ping test.

The only reason one would be uncomfy doing this is due to ignorance of the internet. No personal information is given out when doing a ping test, so what harm could there be?

You can open up a cmd window and just type "ping <destination>". The destination can be an IP address or a known website like yahoo.com for example. Not sure how useful knowing your ping value is unless you are gaming and getting a poor response time.
