RDE 19 1957 Rebuilt carb and fired up. Runs better since carb rebuilt, but seems to "run out of gas" Is it possible that the manifold is not pumping the tank with pressure? It seems to keep running if I pump primer regularly. After I disconnect tank, there is no "hiss" when I loosen the cap. I read somewhere that this should happen. Is there a way to check to see if motor is "pressurizing"? How about testing the tank to see if it is holding pressure? I have rebuilt the tank. I am thinking about switching fuel system to single line fuel pump, but was hoping that one of you would have some ideas. Thanks in advance.

One line is air pressure from the engine and the other line is fuel to the engine. Make sure the line giong to the tank is getting pressure pulses from the engine when it is running.

What is the best way to test for that. I do have an extra female fitting that will fit on the motor male fitting. could I attatch that to the motor fitting and check it that way? What should the pressure be?

Or you could remove the hose where it attaches to the engine and turn it over and see if you get pressure outof the fitting, sorry I don't know what type of pressure you should get out of the fitting.

If it's not a leak in the air hose, do you know anyone with a pressure tank you can borrow to test with? Could be a tank gasket, or a pinhole leak in the tank. But you did say the tank was rebuilt. So try connecting a hose directly from the engine block to the air connection on the tank and see what happens.

Re: 1957 35 hp fuel problems

Ok, so being my first rebuild, I have relied heavily on parts catalog and manual to try to figure things out, but sometimes it takes plain old horse sense. After tearing manifold down to check out pressure valve and reinstalling to no avail, I began to ask myself what if the two hoses on the manifold are hooked up backward? The parts manual sure made it look like I had them hooked up correctly, but when I disconnected the hose to the cutout switch, whoosh pressure and some fuel. Viola! switched them around and engine fired right up and stayed running and my tank had a little swoosh to it when I uncapped it after running. So all is good.........engine needs a run on the WOT to burn out all the crap that has built up inside of her over the years, so I guess the next task is to get my b*%% going on the wagemaker wolverine restoration that is 1/4 done. I am pretty confident that this old girl is going to run like a champ once she taste the freshness of a lake. Thanks for all the help!

Make sure you don't have a pinched line inside the cowling too.

DOES ANYONE HAVE ANY OF THESE OLD CONNECTORS OUT THERE? I JUST PICKED UP AN OLD FASTWIN 18 AND DO NOT HAVE ANY.

Didn't mean to step on our thread. Just thought while I was here...
