Ok since there seem to be many of yiu on here that are WiFi and home network gurus i'll ask.

My home network is wireless. My router is downstairs in the office with one computer connected to it. I have various other devices in the house that connect to the internet via the WiFi.

My new blue ray player can connect to the internet via a LAN LINE to stream movies and youtube and such. Is there a way to connect it wirelessly so I dont have to run a cable up 2 stories and halfway across the house?

Can I just plug it into another wireless router, or a wireless switch or something?

Thanks,
Bill

I would purchase a Wireless N Gaming Adapter or birdge. It essentially plugs into the wired port and then you do some configuration on the Gaming Adapter so the network can see it. I have this in substitute for my PS3's built-in wireless since it is only wireless g. Wireless N will give you more bandwidith up to 1gig/second so you won't have to worry about movies skipping.

Let me know if you have any questions.

Awesome. That doesn't sound too terribly difficult.

Would i have to plug itinto my pc first to configure it, then plug it into the blueray to start streaming the internet, or do I configure it through the blueray player?

I dont have more to add, you got a great advice. You will love the online services. The gf has netflix and amazon so she has some choices. I got the 6 mb service as you need 5+mb service for HD. The kids are playing with the you tube all the time. Have fun!

There are several Blu Ray players now with built in WiFi for sale. This is an option if the above method doesn't work for you.

Yes, you will need a wired connection to a pc first to configure the device. Usually by typing the default ip address 192.168.1.? into a web browser.

Many "internet-ready" Blu-Ray players and home theatre receivers offer an optional "wi-fi" adapter sold by the manufacturer. I have not priced them, though. The above option accomplishes basically the same thing, you're just using another manufacturer's "adapter", probably for less $.

I have the Linksys gaming adapter for my PC which is not near my router and it works great. To set it up, the instructions are very straight forward that come with it. Basically hook it directly up to the network port on your PC and run the setup program with it. It will automatically find it and walk you through hooking it up to your wireless. When done, just move it to your blue ray and you are all set.
