I have just started looking for a boat. A Grady White 192 seems to fit most of what I want to do. Are there other dual console boats that I should consider and look into that may be similar to the Grady?

I live in Minnesota, and it is hard to find this brand of boat here. I want to use it on the Mississippi River and Lake Superior, so I believe this will be better for my application. Unfortunately, this style of boat is not very common around home. Plenty of aluminum options, fiberglass Glastron's etc., but not many sportfish boats.

Any tips or suggestions.

Come to NJ, we got tons of dual console walk arounds!! Tons of different brands, but man you just can't beat a Grady imo. My next boat absolutely positively will be a Grady unless someone gifts me a different one haha.

Any other suggestions.

I have been searching the net and came up with a Wellcraft 210 sportsman, triumph 195 DC.

Kyle,

When you're buying used the brand really becomes secondary to the care taken by the previous owner/owners. I love GW's, but I'd rather have a well kept Bayliner than a beaten to crap Grady. Grady's are amazing vessels that handle chop extremely well and are geared towards hardcore fisherman. I was out yesterday in my Wellcraft V20 in a really rough chop getting slammed around like a rag doll, only to watch a Grady come screaming by me like it was gliding on glass. But again, if it's not properly cared for and maintained, it would only be a headache to you. Find a boat you like and then hire a marine surveyor to look it over for you. It's worth the extra money when you're spending that much to begin with.

Get the Grady. Then again I?m a wee bit prejudice.

I?d rather go down with the ship in Grady than be caught dead on a........:D:D

Check out www.boattrader.com and search for dual consoles. There's a bunch out there. The Grady is a great boat, my parents had two when I was growing up, but the construction of the Triumph really intrigues me.

Gradys are great boats, and I plan to own one someday, but also check Key West and Sea Hunt/Triton. Scout may also may a dual console. Both will save you 20K or so on a "comparable" new boat.

P.S. Get the center console instead :)

Spud, I was in the same position. I'm also in MN and finding a good boat that handles rough water is a big problem. I finally found a Wellcraft 220 locally, but it took a while.

I SERIOUSLY considered finding a Sea Hunt, Triton, Grady, or Wellcraft that was on a dealer's lot and then flying to see it.

As already was mentioned, there are plenty of the style of boats you're looking at in FL and on the East Coast, but the two biggest problems with this route is that first they will be saltwater boats with all of the usual problems and hassles that this entails.

Secondly, there's no way I could trust the previous owner to have kept his trailer in road-worthy condition for a 1000 mile drag, so I'd have had to spend at least a day doing the bearings, tires, etc, etc, etc before I could have started the long haul back.

Personally, if buying from the coast or Gulf, I'd have it shipped. That way you can get the trailer into shape at your leaisure, but it's someone else's problem to get it to your drivewary.

Beyond that, as kind of a middle road, I'd keep a close eye on Craigslists in Ohio and Michigan. There seems to be more of this kind of boat down there and from MN it's at least a feasible drive of 12-18 hours.

Just one word of caution. Just as it's hard to find this kind of rig in MN, it can also be hard to sell them. Basically, anything but a bow rider is going to put you into the "specialist tatste" category in MN. If you watch the Mpls CL you'll probably have seen the 3 Grady White WACs that have been on there since about May along with that poor bugger who's trying to sell that Seaswirl WAC for the past 6 months.
