96 25hp spinning prop hub???

I have a 1996 mercury 25hp outboard, last weekend whilst cruising along at speed the motor lost propoltion and just reved (no thrust). I proceeded to take off again slowly which was fine, but as i gathered speed and revs the same thing happened. feels like prop is slipping or something (maybe wrong). has no troubles cruising a 5knots. just does it under load.

prop is not dammaged at all. any ideas on what it could be???

Have you tried taking the prop off and check to see if everything looks ok? Maybe check the shear pin or the bushing inside the prop.

dont know if it has a shear pin, and has no bush, just the splined hub that slides over the shaft. should it have a pin in this model

Sounds like a spun hub.Yiu can test it with a indeleble marker across thre hub
drive the boat and check the mark.From your description imo the testr isn't necessary.A prop shop can rehub.If prop needs replacing look for numbers on the barrel or under the prop nut.
