How fast should it go? And does it go?

I purchased a 1998 Fisher 24 ft dlx pontoon boat with a 3.0 mercruiser that was not running. I have it running (built the carb, new gimbal bearing, new shift cables, new belows.) Cranks and runs well with no missing. I was even able to adjust the hesitation out of it by way of the shift cable. My question (and I see many different variations of this same type question but no one ever lists what comperable toons run) How fast should I expect this thing to run?

I reallize there are many factors including weight and loading but I am also sure there are others on here with similar boats and this info would help. Mine will only turn up to 3400 rpm with a 16 x 11 prop.

I am not looking for a speed boat only the remaining 1000 - 1200 RPMs when needed to outrun the lightning or in emergencies.

Please list your poontoon make/engine/ WOT RPM and /WOT speed.

98 Fisher 24' dlx / Mercrusier 3.0 / WOT 3400 RPM / WOT 22 MPH

Thanks
Les

You apparently have more work to do in the engine dept. That engine should easily spin an 11P prop at or near the top of the rpm band. Do you have algae build-up on the pontoons for example, heavily loaded, tubes with water in them. Back to the engine. Compression/leakdown test, tune-up, dwell and timing adjustment. THEN begin looking at other things.

The WOT range on that motor is 4400-4800 rpm. I had the same motor in a 28' pontoon a few years back with an OMC drive. You need to drop down in the prop diameter, I would say to a 14 1/4" x 17p, give that a try, and as mentioned above, clean tunes are everything with these boats, even the smallest ammount of algae with slow them down. My boat would run about 20mph, but it was older with small diameter tunes and heavy.

17 is way too much pitch-
11 or 13 should be about right-

2007 Manitou Osprey Pro 24' ,15 1/4 x 15 prop, Yamaha 175 Vmax 5500 WOT, 37.7 MPH GPS with 1 adult and a full tank of gas.

(However, I've got three tubes and lifting strakes so it's probably not comparable.)

2007 22' Bennington (2 logs) and a F150 Yamaha (I can't remember the prop though). With just me and the wife it will turn about 5400 RPM and hit 32 MPH on the GPS. Our usual crew which is 4 adults (average weight is 180), 2 small children (probably 50 & 80 lbs), a large cooler (we usually go all out in the food and drink department) and the rest of our gear we turn about 4700 and hit 25 MPH on the GPS. Although this is very rare because we usually take our time and just cruise around and enjoy the scenery. I didn't buy a pontoon to go fast and am actually quite impressed with how fast this barge will go.
