Fuel pump tube

I repalce my Weber 750 carb with a Edelbrock 600 (1409) carb. It appeared that the 750 was for a big block motor, I have a 350 small block. Well the weber carb was loading up and running very rich.

Last time I took it out, during the 4th of July weekend it flooded out and won't start, so I haven't felt comfortable taking it out with this carb.

When I installed the new carb and was starting it up I notice the see thru tubing from the fuel pump to the carb was pulsing. I disconnected it and had gas coming out, not much just drops.

Is this normal or a bad fuel pump?

Thanks

Re: Fuel pump tube

Sounds like a bad pump. That tube is a safety device to prevent fuel from spilling in to the bilge if the fuel pump were to fail.

Yes, fuel pump is shot and needs to be replaced.

If that 750 Weber is original equipment, it was calibrated for your 350. The 750 cfm weber was used by Mercruiser on most 5.7LX and 350 MAG 4brl carb models. Like the 1409 you purchased, it has an air valve, such that it will not flow more than what the engine needs.

Re: Fuel pump tube

Thanks guys,
I'm ordering a new pump now.

I purchased the motor used and recently rebuilt. Unknown if it was the original carb or not. When I rebuilt the weber, it had tons of gunk in it. I couldn't see any of the jets and all the passages were clogged. It ran ok after the rebuilt except the richness of it, maybe it was the pump making it run rich.

Thanks again
