I bought this motor today, I believe it's a 68, I can't read the model number clearly off the motor though... I purchased it running, which it still is for the most part, however the guy I got it from showed me the air/fuel mixture knobs and told me they were set right and very small movements made a big difference, he started it up and it ran well... I took it home, put it on my boat and put her in the water, it ran great for about 30 seconds then sputtered out and died, I noticed that the knobs for the adjustment turned very easily as I adjusted them slightly to get it running. As I accelerated the knobs spun around a bunch because of how loose they were, and again the motor died. It took me 45 minutes of playing with it to finally get back to the boat launch. When I got it home, I put the motor in a tub and was trying to run it and get the adjustments right, but after an hour and a half I still couldn't get it to run for more than a minute without cutting out. If anyone has any suggestions I would GREATLY appreciate it!

There are packing gaskets behind the brass tubes that the mixture screws thread into. You might be able to tighten the tubes, then readjust the mixture screws.

But I'm in the rebuild carb club.

Remove the carb, dissassemble and soak in carb cleaner at least 1 day. rinse off with water and blow thru all passages with compressed air. Reassemble with new carb kit, and float. But first get a service manual for it.
