93 150 GLETR Fast strike....rebuilding the carbs and I have a few questions. Motor was surging at wide open throttle and would sometimes die at idle. Figured a rebuild wouldn't hurt. Thanks for any help you can offer!!!

1. Do I need to take the throttle body off or just the plastic carb?

I left the metal throttle body on there and removed the plastic carbs and these things are spotless. I'm going to go ahead and spray carb cleaner through it. Run a wire through the jets, and then blow out with air. Is this enough? I don't plan on knocking out the welsh plugs from the throttle body.

2. Any tricks to setting the float height?

Re: 93 150 carb rebuild help

Ok..I've got it all figured out except the float height.

How do I set the height and drop correctly on this. Service manual give sspecs and the height is good but the drop is short. How do I set this.

Carbs are apart and I need to get it put together. Any help you can offer is much appreciated.

Thanks!!!!

Re: 93 150 carb rebuild help

:):)I had hard starting and flooding that started almost at once.turned out to be needle & seats along with warped bowls. Also main jets worked loose. One fell out in my hand. Durn plastic ..... almost all fasteners in plastic were loose from flywheel down to lower cowl.
Watch the bowl gaskets to keep them centered on the sealing ring as they suck into the bowls if left on their own.
Also, check flatness of the bowls. I had to do the figure 8 with 400 grit paper on glass to surface them flat enough to seal correctly. I got the carb kits here on iboats.
So, after kits & reassembly and link & sync I was running again:)

The tab that restes against the seat is bent fore or aft to set float drop

Either I don't see it, or I don't have a tab. There is a hinge pin held in by a retaining screw. The float attaches to the pin but I don't see anything else.

When inverted, it is just slightly above parallel. Seems perfect.

But...when I turn it right side up, the float drops only to a little over 3/4". Manual says it should be about 1". I am measuring without the gasket, so that's not the other 1/4".

Most of what I have read only seems concerned with inverting and getting it withing 1/32" of level (height). Some of the 'pros' post that they just eyeball it. Am I too worried about the measurement when turned right side up (drop)? If I try to bend the float, then it would be out of level when inverted....

Carb up side down.......Tab will be under the tang that is held by the screw resting close to the seat
