I have a 21' bayliner with a suzuki DF140 and the steering feels like it is way too strong when going fast. I feel I have to hold on too tight or it will spin out on me. Originally this boat was owned by someone else and it had a force. I don't know what size that engine was or how the steering felt then but this feels wrong to me. It is a rack style helm and I heard someone mention some sort of dampner I can put on the engine to help me with this. Someone else also said not to use the dampner but to change the helm to a different style. Anyone have any ideas?

Re: Steering question

Who put the motor on the boat and is it set up properly?

have you tried adjusting the trim tab behind the prop to help with the steering torque

Re: Steering question

I don't know enough about the set up to know if it is correct or not, everything else seems fine. I haven't tried to adjust the tab yet but I'll try that. I'm not really sure what direction to turn it to though but I could just try one way, if that doesn't work try the other way.

Re: Steering question

Spend the money on a NFB steering kit from teleflex.....it's worth every penny...
