this is a alpha gen 2 and what I'm thinking is one, I have a piece of alum. cut to fit exactly when I clean and grind the break smooth that I can weld on. Two, I have a longer piece cut that would go on top about half way to the middle of the good part that I was thinking I could throw a couple screws in and seal the rest in with either jb weld or marine tex. I was looking in my service manual and it looks like there is nothing on the inside that could get damaged near the welding area if I decide to weld it. What would the results be if I ground the nubs that are left all the way to the sidewall of the housing and welded the new piece right to it. There may be about 1/8 lip after grinding. any advice? What would the outcome be if I put the piece on top of the existing plate?

Ayuh,... Go ahead and weld in plate #1,... Weld,+ grind to fit, 'n finish...

No need for a fishplate over the welded area,... It'll be plenty strong enough...

What's a fishplate?
Ayuh,......

That's a fishplate...
