First of all thanks to everyone who helps people out on here. I have a 92 Eveinrude 115 V-4 on a 16' fiberglass bass boat. First question is, it doesen't want to plane out very easy. It has a 12.75 X 21 SS 3 blade prop. Is that correct pitch? Would a hydrofoil help? Once it gets on plane it hauls butt. about 45mph. I have more questions but I won't bombard you yet. Thanks in advance!

What RPM @ WOT? Motor should turn ~ 5800 @ WOT. If less, consider lower pitch prop. Hydrofoil will lower top speed, but may help getting on plane, but that should be a very last resort.

That is another problem. Tach dosen't work, it was gonna be my next question. The boat feels like it is standing straight up when you give it throttle for what seems like an eternity before it hits plane, no matter where it is trimmed.

Make sure the motor is trimmed all the way down for best hole shot. It does sound like you have too much pitch on the prop. Take a compression and spark test to rule out a power problem on that motor.

Re: Newb has a question

Well I went ahead and ordered a prop 17" pitch, gonna see if that helps. As for compression, it has between 120 and 130 psi on all 4 cylinders. Spark plugs look good. Now I'm gonna try to figure out how to get my tach hooked up.
