OK I am tierd of trying to anchor off a side cleat so I need to get a spot off the bow if I add a backing plate here do you think it would be fine? Seems to be thick here,we do fish the river alot and when not in the river wind is blowing real good most times. Plus boat is 19' and built like a big box so need the anchor to bite and hold Thanks for and replys..... I am sorry for dark photo but just found out we get to go out this weekend and want to add before we leave....

Might be easier to put in a set of bow chocks. You'd still tie off on your cleats on the side, but the bow chocks will put the pull of the anchor on your bow, which is 100x safer. I think they'll also look a little better there then a big ole cleat sticking up there.

Re: Add a cleat for anchor

I thought of that but the rails are all teak and the rope would have to run across the top of the teak I just redid it all so no go. When they built this one they did not think of anchoring it (1986 190 candia omc 4.3) love the boat runs great lots of room just need a bow spot to anchor right... I know omc  but it is a good one.... Thanks for the reply maybe a pop up cleat would look better now that you said how it would look.

Pop up was my second choice. It looks to me like the bow area can be a passenger load/unload area (deck boat?), if so, I would think a regular cleat could be hazardous.

I'd love to see a pic of all that teak. I love teak....

Yea I think I should go with the pop up,it is a early version of a deck boat. These are the only photos I have now after doing the wood will do some better ones later plus looking for a teak swim platform to add to it also.

Thinking also maybe just add a bow eye it should be low enough to be out of the way....

I second the pop up cleat... A little (ok, alot) more expensive, but WELL worth the money. It is the only way I'd ever consider a bow cleat.

Re: Add a cleat for anchor

I took a short piece of rope and tied a bowline on each end. Then put a heavy duty spring snaps onto each loop. I attach one end to my bow eye that hooks to trailer strap. After I drop anchor and set out as much rode as needed, I'll tie a figure 8 loop in the anchor rode and attach to the other spring snap. Since we mostly anchor for swimming and relaxing in coves, I am usually in similar depth water so the I'll leave the loop tied in rode all day. I also leave end attached to bow eye and pull other end into boat and tuck under a seat cushion.

I keep thinking one day I'll add a popup cleat to our bow but so far anchoring from bow eye has worked great.

It looks like you've got 2 "corner" cleats on the bow? Another option is making a bridle similar to towing tubes/skiers and use the same idea of a loop in anchor rode attached to a spring snap.

Re: Add a cleat for anchor

I have tried different setups like that but they are a real pain and most of the waters we fish in are fairly rough or windy. Plus the bow eye is hard to reach. If it was smooth waters no problem Thanks for the reply...
