1990 FORCE L-Drive 120LD90C
Just purchased 1990 Maxum with a Force 120 L-Drive in it. Motor Had no spark, Found out had stator issues. (One of the 180V coils was dead) Replaced that now have spark on all 4 cyls. Bought new starter. New Spark Plugs. Had running once. Ran like a champ except the cyl. 4 port cover gasket blew out because somebody had the linkage off as well as the 2 bolts holding it. (therefore 1/2 the transfer port cover loose ran lean, backfired). Found bolts and replaced gasket. Never fired up right since. Now it just cranks (fast, no combustion) and when i give it the slightest bit of choke it stops the motor, not like a mechanical bind, but like over-advanced timing working the starter too hard. It works through the bind just not fast. Checked timing cleaned out fuel filter and carbs. (1 1/4 turns out on pilot screw) Even played with timing to have it as close to TDC as possible maybe a few degrees before but even at 0 degree but still once it gets a hint of fuel the motor stops turning. Can add a link to youtube video if it would help with the understanding of this slowing/stopping of the cranking. Marine battery bought new for this season from NAPA. Been using it in my Mercruiser 140 no problems. Float/Trickle charged when not in use.
What would let this motor take right off with a loose transfer port cover but now not start with properly timed spark on all 4 cyls, clean carbs, pump & filters??????????????
Using fuel from choke OR no fuel connected at all.... just mixed gas on a rag same problem...... Slowed/Stopped cranking. Using fuel cell to eliminate tank/gas issues too (Been sitting b4 I bought it) 50:1 mix
Anyone encounter this? Don't want to needlessly replace parts. Only idea I might have is we possibly wasted the new starter already and it cant power through the compression stroke when the gas ignites. Tried rope starting that was pretty funny
Compression is def. there! HELP HELP HELP HELP HELP??
