200 yamaha "99" zinc problem/question

Hello, First post here. Yesterday I put my engine in reverse while docking, the trim zinc above the prop dropped down and hit the prop, chewing it up. Aluminum prop! I have a 200 o66 1999. This zinc was tight at the begining of the season so I am perplexed as to why this happened? I have tried to tighten the zinc but it keeps spinning around, it feels srtipped. Is this possible? and how do I get it off if it just keeps spinning around?

Thank You for your help

try pushing up on the anode while unscrewing the bolt or simply hold it.
try using a torque wrench to properly tighten the new anode.
always use loctite on the anode bolt as well as cleaning the bolt threads.

Thank You, I did try that yesterday. The bolt sucks the anode back up snug but then the wrench just spins at that point. What size wrench, it seems like a 9/16 but maybe its metric??? It will take me a while to get to the dock and work it this morning. I appreciate your help.

Thanks Rodbolt, I have another question. When I get the prop off what foot pounds do I torque the new prop on.

Re: 200 yamaha "99" zinc problem/question

depends on the prop but typically 35 to 50 ft pounds.
not being able to see who made your prop nor what hub is in it makes it difficult to say more.

Hey Rodbolt thanks for your expert knowledge. 12mm was the answer to getting that zinc tight. I have the prop and will get it fixed. I also will by a spare.
Thanks Again,
