stern drive removal

I need to install a new throttle cable into my inboard. I have a 1983 mericruiser 470engine. I have taken off the nuts to remove the stern drive, I have even disconnected the bellows. The engine is not seized up and I am having trouble removing the stern drive it has come out about a 1/4 of an inch but cant get it to come out any further any hints?
