I have a 1990 OMC 4.3. We are experience a problem with it after we've been out for a about an hour. We were pulling a skier and it just missed then died at about 28 mph. After struggling to get the skier back in it must have cooled off enough to start back up. We checked, fuel -water seperator, inline filter- all seemed Ok. Was getting gas and turning over, just not starting. After about 15 minutes it started but only ran for about 5 minutes before doing the same thing. We loaded up and started for home. Again it died, took about 15 minutes before it would start, so we decided to try just motoring back to the dock with the transmission just engaged, not full out. This time it lasted about 10 minutes before dying. Ok time for rescue, called the sheriff and they towed us back in.
It was just tuned at the end of last year, carb boiled and rebuilted, new points, rotor, cap, plugs, battery. Could it be the coil ? It did seem awfully hot to the touch. The ignition switch seems to be working OK. I know if I take it to the shop, they may not be able to find the problem as it is OK while cold and not under a load.
Please help. We're at a loss.
