1975 70hp question

I replaced the head gasket. By accident I removed 2 bolts on the exhaust manifold unfortunately they broke off when I removed them. Could this cause the water to leak back into the cylinders when I try to run it? It will crank back up but then after about 1 min the alarm sounds and it cuts off.

Been with out my boat since November LOL!
Thanks,

Van

Yes that will allow water to get into cylinders. I just got mine back together from an exhaust gasket leak (1977 70hp). It is not that bad of a job, but kind of a pain pulling the powerhead. HERE you can see a blow up of the engine and what gaskets you will need.

Re: 1975 70hp question

That's great news. I thought maybe the head was cracked still could be but hopefully not. When I try to remove the bolts on the exhaust manifold the bolts break. What should I do to get the bolts out? I was thinking of sealing the 2 holds that are left from breaking the bolts previously. How do you suggest I do that?

Thank you,

Van

Re: 1975 70hp question

Where the bolts broke was there some corrosion? If so you may be able to get the exhaust manifold off and be able to unscrew them. IF you can get the rest apart without too much difficulty then spray some good penetrating oil on the bolts and let it soak for a while. WD-40 is not a good penetrating oil.

There was corrosion for sure.I may have to heat the bots to get them to break loose. Just not to sure. Going to give it a shot. Thank you!
