re-tip low speed needle?

Rebuilding a carb on a Evinrude 40HP 66' Big Twin and the low speed needle is a little worn. Not bad like shown in the manual. I was wondering if there's a way to re-tip this. Thanks Guys

No way to re-tip it...if you are rebuilding the carb..the kit should have a new neddle in it...the motor being that old..maybe not.I am not sure what comes with the kit...but you are better off with a new needle...

I'd try grabbing some 800g emery and spinning it in the paper, folded over. then finish it with something finer if you can.

Al-53, there's a needle in the kit but its for the float. I wish it came with one. This is about 3 inches long and is Brass, it appears. Kainon I'm going to try that first while I look for a new one. Any more info is greatly appreciated. Thanks again guys.

Try Sea-Way marine in Seattle. They have an insane amount of NOS parts for old motors.

Spin the needle in a drill (drill press preferred) and hold a file against the tapered portion. It really doesn't have to be all that darned perfect. It just makes it more sensitive to adjustments.

I am thinking 800 after roughing out the imperfection first...

800 grit might take a long time to straighten a worn needle

I would have suggested 400grit , then 600 grit and be done...but 800 will give you a nice shine!!!

all in a drill if your drill chuck doesnt wobble a lot...
