Do I just change the hub to fit a Laser II prop to my Volvo outdrive?

Forgive me for not doing a search on this topic. I've got to leave to pick up my daughter.

I found a 21" pitch SS Laser II prop on Craigslist and the seller advertises it as fitting a "Mercury and Yamaha." I'm not real experienced with these props but I think that the props have replaceable hubs to fit on different brands of outdrives and outboards, right?

Please let me know because I don't want to purchase something that I can't use. Thank you.

Re: Do I just change the hub to fit a Laser II prop to my Volvo outdrive?

Been researching props lately and what I can say is, "It depends."

If the Laser II prop is a two-piece prop, then a hub specific to your motor may be available.

My quick and dirty search does seem to indicate that this is two-piece prop, so the next question is, "Is there a hub for your motor?"

Sounds like it's time to dig around here: http://www.mercurypartsexpress.com/us/hub-kits-c1851.html

Or just call Mercury or a local dealer.

Good luck.

Okay now I'm even more confused than ever.

First, I found out that there are two types of Laser II props; the Mercury Laser II and the Quicksilver Laser II. I called Mercury and asked about these props and they told me that they make them both. I'm still not certain on what the difference is but I think that the Quicksilver line is supposed to be used on "non-Merc" applications. At least that's what they told me but I'm not totally buying it.

Mercury sent me an email with a scanned document showing what props are supposed to fit my 2004 200LX Stingray's Volvo Penta outdrive. It doesn't list any Laser II props  . I've done plenty of reading on the Stingray owner's forum and I know that the Laser II prop comes on some boats and is an option on others. I also know that it comes highly recommended.

For what its worth, my engine is the carbed 5.0L with 220 hp. It came stock with a 21" pitch aluminum propeller.

Okay. I'm still waiting to hear back from the seller with these numbers. I can see them in his posted photo but they're just not quite legible.

I just got off the phone with a knowledgeable Mercury tech and he confirmed what you said, Tail Gunner. I need the prop number off the barrel. In the event that it is a prop with a replaceable hub, the Flo-Torq part # 835270Q1 is what I'll be needing to fit it to my Volvo SX outdrive.

BTW, the seller said that prop hub had 15 splines. Soooooooo, if it is a non-replaceable hub, then this prop certainly won't fit my Volvo Penta SX outdrive :( .
