I have a 1987 force 125 with a broken drive shaft. Does anyone have used one for sale? Extra long, 25", maybe a two piece would work. Is this difficult to replace? Thanks,

We must be running into the life cycle of drive shafts, I have an 88 125 and my drive shaft just snapped a few weeks ago, seems sourcing one (for a reasonable price) is a bear. Let me know if you find a source!

Unless you have a 2 piece shaft already, you MUST use a one piece and install it into the lower unit. They are completely different.

AHEM! I JUST happen to have a 140 with an extra long shaft---but you couldn't buy it for love of money---gloat, gloat!

I bet it snapped in the skinny part of the driveshaft. I broke mine twice.

Re: force 125 broken drive shaft

I just started parting my 1989 Capri 1811 with a Force 125 L drive out. The intermediate drive is in good shape. I am looking to get $375.00 for it. It is in Michigan. If I can be of help, my email is mark.frazier@rocketmail.com PS I also have all the other parts available for this boat.

The 1st time I had a buddy fix the old one by machining a new center piece. he had a new lathe and made a beautiful piece of work. it lasted about 150 hrs or so when it let go at the welds. The second one I found on craigslist and its still going strong.

Is this difficult to replace? Thanks,

If you have a service manual and are mechanically inclined, you'll be able to replace it yourself. It's important to have the right tools to take apart the lower unit, (or really good homemade alternatives).

Make sure the bearing on the shaft (below the pump housing) is good too. I would recommend replacing this if it doesn?t spin freely. It can be difficult to get off the old bearing, I had to use an air cut off tool, cut it without hitting the shaft, then MAP gas, hammer and a heavy duty chisel.

A few things were tricky, but with a little time and determination I got it switched out in about 3 hours (including the bearing). (I was installing all new gears too; some of my teeth were chewed so I bought IDENTICAL replacements). After you do it once and know what tools you need, you?ll have it down to a science!
