Guys!
Need some advice and tips to change the impeller for my OB. I would like to know any tips and tricks like leaving the gear forward and so on. Its necessary to change the housing or its ok to just change the gasket and "obviously" the impeller? I have seen a few videos about this task but want to be sure regarding any other "surprise" The engine is working fine but I own this boat for 2 years now and "is time to change"

THANKS!!!!:)

Re: 1993 115 HP OB Mariner Impeller change

Seems everybody has a different method. I go by my Merc service manual which does say to put it in forward gear before beginning.

I just did mine last spring. I did not change the housing. It looked perfectly fine. I only replaced the impeller, the metal plate under it and the two gaskets that seal the plate and housing. I did not mess with the drive shaft seal area.

If the lower unit won't go all the way back on, turn the flywheel a little.

Thanks Dave for your reply, I own the SELOC manual for my O/B and dont remember the forward gear trick but I will do the same way as you did. Its looks like there is no more additional trick to change the impeller. Hope doesnt screw up it.

Thanks Again!

I'm scratching my head trying to figure out why the book says to put it in forward gear. I can't think of a reason. I think it will work out ok either way but I think the important point is that whatever gear you have it in leave it there throughout the procedure. Don't disturb the shifter or the shift shaft until complete.

Do you have any noise on reverse during low rpm?

Re: 1993 115 HP OB Mariner Impeller change

Now my problem is the following, I can go to FF or Neutral and the prop respond fine to both gears, I mean in FF the prop ratcghed CW and stuck on CCW, on neutral its go freely to both side but in reverse the prop doesnt ratched in any way its looks like its stuck. Just as additional info I try to turn the shatf @ the LU but all I get is FF-N-FF my REVERSE IS LOST!!!!Any ideas?
