Need a Place to Work

After the lake is drawn down for winter, I plan on refurbishing my old boat. Problem is, I live in a mobile home park and no place to work inside. I was wondering if anyone knows about a portable, tent like cover? I hope I described what I want clearly. I've seen these things like a canopy at Wal-Mart, but they are only 10'x10'. The boat is a 20'. I would apprecate any suggestion.

Kinda hard to keep any HEET in that one in the winter. No sides or ends. The HF one is fully enclosed and easily heated with a small space heater.

I'm just sayin...:D

With all the space for rent or sale now a days, you should be able to make a deal with someone that has some empty space. I've done it before.

Offer to pay cash, very little, like $100.00 per month, no lease agreements or a month to month. Sometimes, a little $$ sounds better than NO $$.

No need to call the power company if you have a small genny to run any small power tools.

Do not try to heat a garage. Expensive and not to mention dangerous if your not there! If it's a cuddy or a cruiser, you can run an electric heater down below while you work. Doesn't take much to warm it up real quick.

Offer to keep your operation mobile in case the property rents to a perspective client.

my 2 cents worth,
Jim

My 2 cents

Go for the canopy thing and a kerosene heater.

Thought being,,, if it is close to your couch you are likely to put in more time.

A lot of jobs take just a bit, you might not drive to work for 10 mins to an hour, ( especially after a long day at your job) but you will walk just out the door for that time.

Not to mention being right where all your tools are.

I agree with danzig...my boat is 5 min down the street at my grandmothers house...now ive been working on it for year and a half.....because its more of a PITA to load up toools and drive there to work on it than if it was at my apartment...if i had room here...you better believe id be working on it daily after my normal workday.

Ha! My boat is right there in my back yard and I don't get out on it like I'd like. Why? because my tools are scattered in various locations and I have to drag the ones that I have out of a cramped shed, not to mention that it's not under a cover that I can work in. Problem is, the city I'm in doesn't allow the darn things. I had my boat at my mobile home and got more work done on it in a shorter time that I had/do at my house....wish I had a garage- I hate dragging my tools out and having to put them away every day I work on the boat. If I had to drive to my boat to work on it and had all my stuff laid out I think I'd personally get more done because I'd make a point of getting something accomplished and be more organized about it instead of the random way I go about it now.

Re: Need a Place to Work

I started my demo in late sept , then covered it up for winter and left it mostly alone parked next to the house we rent.
By late feb I was installing or pouring the transom, theres plenty of mild days besides the cold ones. By early april it was mostly done.
A tent garage would be nice but not absolutely needed.

Wish I had a tent garage now though, freakin trees and the crap that falls in the boat.! I'm constantly sweeping up acorns.
