Many years ago when I was a kid, I was casting spoons on the Nanticoke for smallmouth bass.

After a few casts I noticed some kind of leaf or debris hanging off the treble.

After taking a closer look, sure enough a little half-inch bass fry had attacked my 2-inch spoon!

I was out fishing with my Grandpa on a pond at his bud's place. Hooked up and thought for sure it was a log or limb or such. Pulled and tugged and reeled. No amount of energy expended would increase the pace, slow and steady was the only speed. Finally got the payload to the shore and it was a massive aligator snapping turtle. I was young and memory is fuzzy, but this thing was nearly as large as the landing net and broke right through that (we were using the net to keep it ashore, not trying to pick it up). I figure it had to weigh a good 35lbs. Grandpa goes to the truck and digs out a welding hammer. He, being about 6' brings that hammer down with all his force square on the head of mr. turtle several times. The only effect of this was to **** off the turtle, and Grandpa in turn. Buddy ran up to the house to grab a rifle, but mr. turtle broke the netting, broke the line and made his way back to the water before buddy got back. I couldn't believe the resilience of this creature. It was a truly amazing catch.

well last year my sisters brother inlaws and all the kids to include my wife and kids went fishing to a small lake. One of little neices who is eight went to cast here little dora fishing rod and when she pulled the rod forward the hook caught my sister right in the middle of her nose between both nostril's. She starts screaming and yelling the funny part is my sister is already full of piercings on her face and know she has a hook that goes in one nostril and out the other. I cut the barbs and eye off the hook and pushed it through and for about two hours all she could smell was samon eggs.

Last year, while fishing in Quebec. My fishing buddy hooked a portable Eagle fish finder. It was covered in mud and appeared to have been there since the year before. On shore, I disassembled it, cleaned it and connected another battery. Lo and behold, it still worked. He still uses it on his boat whenever he goes fishing.

My 14yo nephew caught a beautiful little spin cast rod a little while back. It's his primary rod now.

Like Limited Time, I caught a nice rock in Lake Erie. That was the strangest thing I ever caught. A buddy of mine caught something strange and his wife diviorced him

When my daughter was 3 she caught a rock bass with no lower jaw. While she was proudly displaying it she caught my buddy's black lab.
Myself, well not much out of the ordinary except the times I caught heck from the wife. By that was after I got home from fishing.

I once caught a 55 gallon drum with my anchor. Must have been a burn barrel for ice fishing.

I've also caught frogs, fishing poles, lures. I once caught a blue gill on a hula popper

A HOOKER!

I was jigging a spoon when all of a sudden something hammered the spoon. I started pumping and reeling and this thing wouldn't give an inch, like it was glued to the bottom. I started making some headway when my buddy said I caught the anchor. Anchor my a**, this thing is pulling like a freight train! I worked it for another 15 minutes when I could see something white start to appear, another couple minutes and it all came into view, it was the anchor... A painted white 10# "Hooker"

Here's a funny one I saw on a tuna sportboat. There were 5 guys across the stern tending troll rods when one of the guys said he had to go to the head. Once the guy got settled in doing his business a deckhand grabbed a 5 gallon bucket, reeled in his rod, hooked the 5 gallon bucket to the trolling feather and chucked it over the side. Once it was 50 yards back, the deck hand flipped it into gear, flipped on the clicker and the reel started screaming. Another fisherman started banging on the head's door and yelled "GET OFF THE POT, YOUR REEL IS SCREAMING!". By the time the guy got to the rail the reel had dumped most of it's line and it was GAME-ON! This guy was reeling fast and furious so the school would follow his tuna back to the boat... After several minutes of non-stop reeling, and dripping with sweat, the guy saw what he had hooked ,,, right as the deck erupted in laughter.

I've caught a Bull frog on a red fly once when I was about 12 ish...
Various branches, logs, etc...

Most interesting thing I have seen is last summer I was in Florida, and watching some guys fish off the pier. One of them just cast, and right as it hit the water, a large dolphin snapped up his bait and took off. All the guy did was hold on for dear life, and began reaching for his knife. I think it had run out about half his line before he got the knife in hand, and got it cut. I guess that's about all you can do when that happens...my wife was quite sad at the thought of the dolphin though.

I was about 12 years old, one of the last times fishing with Grandpa before he passed away. We were in his 12 foot tinny on the other side of the river when I hooked something. It was BIG, but it didn't fight much. We were at the base of some cliffs. I guess the deer that I hooked had fallen from the cliffs and died their. I hooked and retrieved a dead, half decayed deer. Yuck!

Have caught several rods. And caught a bass (about 18 - 20 inches) that I had lost about 30 minutes earlier. How do I know it was the same fish? My lure was still hanging from its mouth!

Just last night (Aug 8th) My son and I were fishing a local river from the bank and I caught the same doggone turtle three times. Just a little one but he sure kept me from hooking any fish. LOL After the third time we took him off a ways down river and turned him loose on the bank. I never seen such a determined varmit. LOL The fishing improved greatly after we carried him off.

Late one fall back in the late 70s my dad and I were fishing a bend in the Ohio River just down from Big Bone Lick, Ky. We had a wire basket with several 2 - 3# channel cats in it. Whenever a barge would go by we would get a fish. I caught one and was slipping it in the basket and somehow I disconnected it from the boat. While trying to hold the fish and reconnect the basket I dropped it in 20 feet of water. Felt bad, but what are you gonna do. The next spring we were in the same spot and I hooked something. When I reeled it in, it was our lost basket with bones still in it. My dad still has the basket. I have also caught a Zebco 909 and rod, and a tackle box in the Ohio. I even caught a 14" yellow perch in the same place I caught the basket. You never know what you are gonna catch in the Ohio.

Probably shouldn't tell you this, but me and 2 brothers (as kids...long before one became a lure manufacturer) learnt how to catch lures.

We couldn't afford to buy lures, but loved catching sea run pink salmon, so we got about 10yards of a 7 wire farm fence, with battons attached, and dropped it in a deep hole below some rapids.
Was attached to a rope which we anchored to bottom. Early morning, along we would come, dive in and get rope end, pull fence in and remove all the lures, put it back in, trim of the nylon, and go fishing.
We did well for years, even traded them at school for goodies from the tuck shop.
Some of those salmon were so big, Mum use to have to bottle them.

(We were quite good at tickling trout too, and one brother had the balls to take silver-belly eels the same way...always funny to watch...somehow it would curl around his arm...he would rip his arm out of the water, eel attached, one of us would hold the sugar sack open and he would flick it in...slime slid it off his arm real smooth....grab the sack tight, open and slit it across the back of its head....dead eel. Good eating...hot bread straight out of the oven with baked eel!! Got good at spot-lighting them too)

I was on a dock out in Napa and I pulled up a rod that have all types of growth on it....then 3-4 tiny crabs crawled out of the growth. I stuck it in a pole holder and watched things moving around on it while I fished. Don't know if someone tossed it back in or threw it away, since I was the last to leave and left it in the pole holder
